As a woman called to raise and inspire other women, every day is International Women’s Day for me. I don’t need a special occasion to carry the cause of women on my head, it is my life’s work.
But today is a reminder that we can’t afford to slow down. Accelerate Action isn’t just a theme; it’s a reality check. Change won’t happen if we sit back and wait. Women deserve equality, respect, and opportunities, not someday, but right now.
Take a look at what’s happening with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan—a woman who stepped into Nigeria’s political space, shattered barriers, and claimed her place in a system designed to shut women out. She was sexually harassed by a sitting Senator and was bold enough to speak her truth. But instead of getting justice, she’s facing attacks, threats and endless attempts to push her out of power.
We have to stand with her, because her fight is bigger than just her. It’s about every woman who dares to rise, every girl who dreams of leadership, and every mother who wants her daughter to have the same voice, respect, and opportunities as her son. If we stay silent, we tell them that no matter how hard they fight, the world will always try to keep them small. And that is something we cannot accept.
Empowerment is not a gift. Equality is not a privilege. These are rights, and we must claim them, fiercely, unapologetically, and without fear.
So today, let’s not just celebrate women. Let’s fight for them. Let’s amplify their voices. Let’s accelerate action, not just for ourselves, but for the generations of women and girls who will walk the path we carve.
Because the future is not waiting for us. It is ours to build.
