Have you ever paused long enough to ask yourself: What seeds am I planting in my life right now? Not just what am I hoping for, praying about, or dreaming of, but what am I actually sowing?
Yesterday, I caught myself in a moment of deep introspection. I realized that over the years, I’ve been taking intentional steps in my career and major areas of my life. But truthfully, it didn’t always feel like it. At the time, those steps didn’t seem significant or spiritual. They often looked like regular decisions: applying for a course, declining a role, making a move. But now, looking back, I can see the thread. I’ve started to connect the dots. A course I took two years ago has suddenly become relevant for the opportunity I’m pursuing today. That’s not a coincidence. That’s God.
It humbles me to know that I didnt take these steps on my own, It has been the Spirit of God working in me, both to will and to do for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). I can’t take credit for the the wisdom to obey, because it’s the Lord who has faithfully led me each step of the way. Like Psalm 32:8 promises, He has been guiding me along the best pathway for my life, advising me and watching over me.
But if I’m being honest, I sometimes feel like I’m still so far from the "promised land." You know that place in your mind where you imagine everything finally coming together. Where the harvest is visible, tangible, and undeniable.
So I had a heart-to-heart with the Holy Spirit. I asked why it sometimes feels like I’m building forever and not arriving. And in that quiet space, I heard Him say something I won’t forget:
“Perpetua, you are planting seeds, even if you can’t see it. They are running deep enough to stand the test of time. Don’t forget, as long as the earth remains, seedtime and harvest will never cease” (Genesis 8:22). The harvest is guaranteed, but you must honour the planting season. Keep sowing - I’m watching over every seed.”
That broke me and built me at the same time.
Because here’s the truth: we often measure progress by what we see, but God is more concerned about what we’re sowing and, more importantly, who we are becoming in that season. He reminded me that I’m not just building from a place of ambition, but from obedience. When you’re building under divine instruction, God determines the timeline, not you. His prophetic calendar is often out of sync with our earthly clocks, but it's never late.
The Principle of the Seed
God is a God of principles, and sowing is one of His many principles. Galatians 6:7 says, "Do not be deceived: God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." This means if you're sowing faith, diligence, love, and obedience, a harvest is coming. Maybe not today. Maybe not even next year. But eventually, in due season, it will come.
Look at Joseph. For years, he sowed seeds of character, service, and faithfulness. From being sold into slavery to being thrown into prison for doing the right thing, his journey didn’t look like a success. But the Bible makes one thing clear: God was with him. And when his harvest came, it was so undeniable that the same people who cast him aside had to acknowledge it.
Or think of the parable of the sower in Matthew 13. Not every seed bore fruit. Some fell on rocky ground, others among thorns. But the ones that fell on good soil? They produced a harvest - 100, 60, or 30 times what was sown. The soil mattered. But even more, the act of sowing mattered.
Young and Planting
Ecclesiastes 12:1 reminds us, "Remember your Creator in the days of your youth..." Why? Because youth is the prime time for planting. These are the years when decisions carry compound interest. The seeds you sow in prayer, service, discipline, career, relationships, and vision now determine the fruit you will eat tomorrow.
We live in a world that celebrates instant results. But genuine growth doesn't work like fast food. It works like farming. Quiet, slow, hidden, but powerful and lasting.
So the question isn't just "What do you want to become?" It's What are you sowing today that reflects that desire?
Because not sowing is still a choice, a dangerous one. If you don’t plant anything, you don’t reap anything. And sadly, many will get to certain seasons of life and realize they have no harvest because they spent their sowing years waiting for signs and perfect conditions.
Final words…
Maybe you're like me, still in the middle of building. Still sowing faithfully, yet wondering when it all pays off. Let me tell you what the Holy Spirit told me:
"What God is having you build won't take a day. It will take time. But the end is guaranteed."
So I urge you to keep sowing with joy, tenacity, hope, and diligence. Keep your hands on the plow and your heart in His Word. Trust that every seed counts. Every act of obedience is recorded. Every tear you cry in your waiting will water the ground.
Here’s a gentle reminder that God blesses movement. He honors those who plant by faith, not sight. Don’t despise your planting season. Embrace it. Because it’s in the hidden work that deep roots are formed. And one day, perhaps when you least expect it, the harvest will come. Not just any harvest, but one that was grown with God.
So, What Now?
As we continue this journey together, I want you to do three (3) things this week;
Take inventory: What are you actively sowing?
Journal: What does sowing look like in your current season?
Pray: Ask God for a fresh perspective and renewed joy in your building season.
You're not behind. You're becoming.
And the seeds you're sowing now? They're sacred.
With love and grace,
Perpetua
Oh Perpetua! Thank you so much for this word. I feel discouraged when I don’t see results right away but God will give the increase in due time!
Very timely word from the Holy Spirit to me through you. Am so happy and grateful right now. Thank God and thank you 🙏🏿💞
